School Holiday program 28th September – 8th October 2020
Rumor has it that MYRC held another successful School Holiday program and this couldn’t be any closer to the truth! The Term 3 school holidays kicked off with a community event, as MYRC, in partnership with Barnardos Australia (Marrickville), held an Open Day BBQ. The locals engaged in recreational games, created some beats in the Music Studio and had a yarn. The day was polished off with a delicious BBQ with catered Lebanese food; kafta, humus, caramelized seasoned onions and Lebanese bread.
The first week continued with an Art Expression workshop held by Hila. With a wide range of art materials provided, the youth dabbled into their creative side, showcasing a brush of artistic talents.
This continued with more creative activities, with the likes of capturing spring in a Snapshot, MasterChef-ing skills with create your own Pancake Face and Caramel Popcorn. Check out the edible entries that had won our competitions!
The second week got a little dirty with Seedling in Spring, with youth and families rolling up their sleeves to sow seeds and plants just in time for spring! The week folded into Origami with Georgia providing a tutorial workshop via ZOOM.
The school holidays ended with Tom’s Street Art workshop, where youth explored with spray paint, colours, shading and font techniques. You can find their design on our external building, a vibrant addition to our MYRC mural.
But wait there’s more! We didn’t exactly ‘twist, lick or dunk’ our way out of the holidays, but there sure was some amazing tricks with an Oreo cookie. Check out the talented Erin eating an Oreo cookie in less than 20 seconds hands-free! We are not entirely sure how many practices it took to master the trick but she sure ate her way into winning the competition for How Fast Are You?
… And on behalf of MYRC, thank you for all who participated in Term 3 school holiday program. We are looking forward to seeing you to our next school holidays with new and exciting events to come!
